About Historic Main Street Alliance

Since 1994, when Alliance first became a part of the Nebraska Main Street program, it has made a difference. This program has made a difference in the lives of numerous Nebraska residents by providing communities the opportunity to revitalize their traditional downtown commercial business districts through economic development and historic preservation.

In Alliance, our Main Street program slipped away for a few years but soon came back in October of 2007. It was then that we have seen new businesses in our downtown and downtown buildings being refurbished. This program allows buildings to reconstruct or design their store fronts or facades, by using the LB840 funds.

The Alliance Main Street program is here to promote our downtown business district. It has shown us how to retain and enhance the authentic character of our existing historic commercial buildings, and how to attract new customers and better serve the ones we have. The people, projects, history, and fun create ENERGY found on our Box Butte Avenue. This leads us to the Main Street programs Four Point Approach, design, promotions, economic restructuring, and organization.

The Main Street Four Point Approach is:

Design: Improving downtown's image by enhancing its physical appearance, which are all elements conveying a visual message about the downtown.

Promotions: Marketing downtowns unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists, and others

Economic Restructuring: Strengthening the existing economic base of downtown while diversifying it.

Organization: Building consensus and cooperation between many groups playing roles in downtown.
